Cleansers Review

Received a wonderful boxset from Sephora recently containing a handful; (literally :p) of cleansers that I am so stoked to share with you guys! And the timing couldn’t been ever more right as I just ran out of my usual cleansing gel. Hence it was the PERFECT time to test these babies out.

The items that came in the box (from left, clockwise) : Sephora Triple Action Cleansing Water RM65, Algenist Genius Ultimate Anti-Aging Foaming Cleanser RM170, Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Cleansing Butter RM439, Biocleanse Silky Soft Cleansing Milk RM114, Foreo Luna 2 RM879, Makeup Eraser cloth RM95, and finally, the Arcona Cranberry Gommage RM153.

Let’s start with the Foreo Luna 2, if you’ve been my readers for years you’ve probably seen my VLog of the Luna. And now with the newly improved Luna 2, there’s nothing more but more praises I can say about it. Not only it thoroughly cleanses my face, it removes impurities and definitely shrinks my pores!

With 6 new areas of innovation, the Luna 2 boast a 26% longer touch points allowing for a deeper more thorough cleanse and 12 adjustable pulsation intensities for enhanced T-Sonic cleansing and anti-aging system (the back part is used for targeting wrinkle spots). The other product I am so in love with is the Makeup Eraser cloth! However, now, thanks to Sephora Malaysia we can finally get our hands on them!

Just by wetting the cloth with lukewarm water it removes ALL makeup! No chemicals, nothing! The secret lies in the weave of the fabric which picks up all traces of makeup on the face. For girls like me this is a major time saver, and effort too haha.

A very good clarifying cleanser would be this Arcona Cranberry Gommage. Packed with cranberry enzymes, it unclogs and minimises pores. Leaving my skin not only visibly clearer but also more refined and soft to the touch. This award winning formula also protects the skin by reducing free radical damages (I’m guessing from the goodness of cranberries!).

Sephora’s Triple Action Cleansing Water is great for girls who have lash extensions or are not keen on using oil based makeup removers or cleansers. I remembered when I had my lash extensions on and the trouble I had removing my eyeliner. Having this on hand would’ve helped heaps!

Containing plant derived HydroSenn+, this removes makeup and moisturises the skin leabing it soft at the touch. You don’t even have to rinse after use and it is perfect for days when you have very little time on your hands *coughs* late nights *coughs*.

This one has it all in the name. Luxe, lavish and fabulous, the Peter Thomas Roth 24K Gold Cleansing Butter is nothing short of that. Comes with a Konjac sponge in a tear drop shape, for a more targeted cleansing and exfoliation. This is a solid to oil cleanser that melts away (no puns intended) makeup and impurities. Perfect with those who suffer from dry skin, it also contains Chamomile Butter and Honey to deliver the ultimate hydration leaving skin not only hydrating but also revitalised.

The Algenist Anti Aging Foaming Cleanser is an anti-aging foaming cleanser that contains Alguroninc Acid and Microalgae oil to minimise the appearance of fine lines. And any females above the age of 21 (but I heard it’s better after 25 years old, as the skin on our face is rather delicate), to start using certain products to prevent wrinkles and well, aging. It is formulated without parabens, sulphates and synthetic dyes. It is gentle and it helps you achieve the supple youthful skin or maintain it!

For more sensitive skin, one can opt for the Bioclense Silky Soft Cleansing Milk from Estelle & Thild. Soothing botanicals such as Black Elderflower and Aloe Vera, this cleanser sweeps away impurities while maintaining the skins natural pH levels.

It’s 2016 and as many of you know I do not believe in New Years resolutions. However, I had a goal in mind this year. To work out, be healthy and more productive. I’ve recently signed up with True Fitness Malaysia and got right to it!

I was looking forward to a healthy lifestyle with a fun, dynamic environment and something that I would look forward to! Also, results!

So I popped by True Fitness for my health/body evaluation.

There's been some major changes in my schedules and lifestyle recently which didn’t help with my health or fitness commitments. These really shouldn't be my excuses but I got distracted and haven't been focusing as much as I should have on keeping a healthy lifestyle.

I was given an analysis by my Personal Trainer at True Fitness. The machine evaluated my body mass, fat and etc.

To me, staying healthy isn't just about losing weight because the journey doesn't end once I reach my end goal weight. It's about staying fitter, stronger, more energetic to keep up with my busy lifestyle.

With guidance from my Personal Trainer, I got advices on my diet and proper training to achieve a leaner, toner, body.

I was glad to have personal training because I know that I need that extra push and professional help in making exercise, and more nutrional meal-planning, a regular thing in my life. I've never been a fan of lose-weight-fast fads like diet pills, "special" massages, body wraps or even. Yes, relying just on these might help you to lose fat (or perhaps just water weight) fast, but they will never help you to keep them off. Why? Because your lifestyle and way of thinking hasn't changed. You still eat the same food, you still live the same sedentary way so once you stop these pills / massages / programs / medical procedures, the fat will just pile back on.

So we started off by doing basic training from lunges to planking, squats and so on. It was 45 minute work out and 10 minutes on cardio. I was so exhausted after it but I felt so good! Haven’t felt that way in a long time.

With a Personal Trainer, I gained more knowledge to strategise, track and progress towards my goals, and form better fitness habits so that even if I stop the program, I will still use these knowledge and habits for life.

For now, at least I know that I will definitely be working out at least twice a week for 12 weeks. And that is already a win for me.

Sometimes I start out strong and furious, but then half-way through I burn-out or get distracted and lose my way in exercising. With a Personal Trainer who tend to push and supervise my workouts customized to my goals, needs, genetics and current fitness level, I'm quite sure that I'll be able to get the maximum results in the most time-efficient manner.

I love how True Fitness accommodates to everyone’s needs. They get you the right trainer and my Personal Trainer knows and understands what I want out of the progress and training. It felt great to have a bond with my PT and being able to work towards my goal.

Dior Malaysia recently invited Malaysia's Hottest Bloggers to join them for the exclusive preview cocktail of the new Diorever collection which is currently available at the Dior boutique at Starhill. Dior’s new Diorever bag was developed over a period of more than nine (9) months and takes more than a day to produce. It requires the utmost finesse and skills to make its structured curves, reversible flap, metallic clasp, and precise leatherworking, which ultimately results in a mini work of architecture with a timeless design befitting its name.

Each Dior boutique is designed and outfitted differently while keeping to a “homely” feel with bespoke furniture dotting each section different from the next section. Recently made a visit to Venice Optometry in Desa Seri Hartamas for my yearly eye check. It is important to get your health checks yearly, just as a guideline of how your body is doing and the ways to maintain or improve it.

This time round, I got to learn of the importance of eye protection against UV rays. The majority of Malaysians are not aware of the dangers of UV rays to the eyes, and the various eye problems which have been associated with overexposure to UV radiation! They then went over the available lens options with me and explained how each lens can best meet my lifestyle needs.

I was then introduced to the Crizal UV lens which is an innovative product by Essilor. It does not only offer the most advanced protection against damaging UV light with an Eye-Sun Protection Factor (E-SPF) of 25, but it also offers front and back side UV protection combined with perfect transparency.

I was then given a short brief about this Crizal Prevencia lens which blocks out specific wavelengths of blue light from reaching one’s ocular tissue. This lens blocks the narrow band of blue light which is specifically the “retinal damaging” light.

This lens is completely clear, unlike other yellowish blue-blocking lenses. This is a great choice for those who do not want a “socially awkward” yellow lens. This lens does have a purple hue on the front side, that can be seen under certain light conditions and it indicates that the lens is actively blocking harmful blue-violet light! It’s perfect for me as sometimes I find glasses not being really fashion forward with its yellowish lenses.

A proper fit and comfortable vision is the main goal hence I was ushered into a room for some tests to be done. Getting a proper fit is majorly important, that’s why visiting a skilled optometrist to get the right prescription and obtain the right type of lens that suits your eyes and lifestyle is always stressed on.

It is not a bronzer however but it enhances the bronzer I used as the beautiful warm glow it gives so I'm not left with a matte brown streak inbetween my cheeks and jawline.

In between these two powerhouses of illumination is the Incandescent Light, a pearlescent beige highlighter designed to brighten the complexion and give a “celestial glow” to the face. Unlike the other two powders, this one is shimmery, so just a touch does the trick. Perfect for highlighting the browbone, cheek bones and even cupids bow, just a dab of this here and there sums up the whole sun kissed , dewy look!

I also received a bottle of Veil Mineral Primer to prepare my skin for these gorgeous product to be applied on.

This lightweight primer is formulated to “conceal redness, minimize the appearance of pores while softening the look of fine lines and wrinkles. It also repels water to ensure makeup appears fresh all day long!

Last but not least, the 1.5MM Hourglass Mechanical Gel Eyeliner. It is quite thin so I had to be a wee bit careful while applying but it goes on so softly and smooth! Very easy application without the need of a brush to scoop product out of a pot hence no clean-up required! Effortless control, and allows for lining in between lashes which is great whenever I will be sticking on false lashes as I hate it when there's spots in between my lashes later on.

Thanks to Lazada. I attended a very interesting launch recently about a rather interesting if not very commonly overtly spoken topic. Not only did I learn quite a bit during and after that launch but I also found out that Malaysian women have the highest level of sexual satisfaction of countries surveyed in Asia and Europe! 3 out of 4 Malaysian women feel that they are in control of their sex life, which is good isn’t it?

These are the findings of a nationwide survey on female satisfaction unveiled by Smile Makers. Smile Makers who you’re probably asking?

Well they are definitely not a dental clinic but before we get to that, let’s have a look at the results of a survey they conducted:

65% of Malaysian women are sexually satisfied.

73% of Malaysian women feel they are in control of their sexual satisfaction.

79% of Malaysian women talk about sex openly as well as their own sex lives with their partners and female friends.

Malaysian women feel that a healthy sex life contributes to the emotional and physical wellbeing of women, including factors such as feeling loved (95%), happy (92%), attractive (83%), less stressed (83%), beautiful (77%) and healthy (61%).

68% of Malaysian women feel sexual satisfaction is important, this is significantly higher than our neighbors in Singapore (47%), but still behind some European counterparts such as France (88%).

Malaysian women have the highest level of sexual satisfaction of countries surveyed in Asia and Europe. Which is quite a surprise to me considering the prevailing conservative perceptions Malaysian women may have of themselves, or the perceptions others may have of them.

Girls trip with Erin and Lisa couple months back since Erin is back from Melbourne.

It was quite spontaneous as we were always talking about it but did not pursue any planning.

When it finally happened we were so stoked and excited!

We went through many websites and such to look for the best price. It was so competitive, however, we finally ended up booking through Traveloka which I downloaded through the Google Play Store but for those iPhone users, you can probably get it on the Apple App Store. I've heard reviews about this site and not only I can browse through the different types of flights offered but I can book our hotel stay through it too, I've also heard that they're one of the largest flight and hotel booking platform in Indonesia.

On the day itself, we headed to KLIA2 to catch our flight.

We were lucky to have gotten it at that price which was cheap, as we booked it pretty last minute.

I had a late night and insufficient sleep, but as everything was prepped, ready and booked for, I had little much worries to think of. It was holidayyyyy for me!

It was a clear and smooth journey as we arrived around lunch time and took a one hour cab ride into Patong Beach, the main area of Phuket. I always loved staying at that area as I am very familiar with it and also because you have everything there! From yummy food to nightlife, shopping, the likes.

We grabbed a kebab before checking into our hotel, La Flora which is a beach front hotel (major plus points)!

We were so pleased and happy with our choice, thank god for all the reviews we read which made booking this hotel so much easier.

The best part was the mini fridge would be replenished daily.

The amount of soft drinks, beers and fruit juices was just sooooooo good. Honestly, never stayed somewhere where the mini bar was free of charge. The room was decadently decorated with warm earthy hues and nice lighting. The balcony was huge with two lounge chairs.

Then we ended up spending the whole afternoon at the beach till sunset.

Basking in the beautiful warm sun rays while having a dip in the ocean at times just to cool off.

It was so convenient to be beachfront located, as we could just easily adjourn to the beach in our swimsuits without lugging our spare clothes with us.

Even though Patong is swamped with tourist and some might prefer or actually asks me why do I keep going back there when there's so many other beaches around, the answer would always be the same. Because I love the vibrant people I observe from far, the water is blue enough and sand is white enough for me.

We sat back, I read my book, the played with their phones all while having cold fresh fruits and coconut juice.

The sun was setting, and the sky turned from baby blue to a spectrum of colours.

Purple, pink with a hint of orange and blue, it was just too perfect.

It was a beautiful sunset, till it got really cold and we headed back to our room for a nice warm shower before dinner.

We relaxed for a bit more till it was dark outside and headed off to one of the most infamous roads in Phuket. Bangla Road it is!

The girls couldn't help themselves from some sweet snacks right before dinner.

We walked the whole street and then the whole way to Hooters, not knowing it was quite a far walk but still, there were so many shops around that it didn't feel like such a torture.

We had fried chicken and sliders with some cocktails to pair with.

And then back to Bangla Road to check out the nightlife.

We ended up at a club where a guy wanted to sell us drink cards for unlimited flow of alcoholic beverages but we decided that we wouldn't be drinking so much as we had a few more days to go. Thank god we didn't as we did not spend as much as it would've cost us to pay for those cards.

We headed back to the hotel after a long evening out. I was so tired from the lack of sleep, the afternoon spend tanning and all the walking but it was all fun and good.

One favourite restaurant I enjoy going to while in Phuket is Baan Rim Pa, located at the north end of Patong beach. We headed there for lunch, seated outside enjoying the view but sadly the weather was going so great after the first day, it got way too hot. I can't even remember how much watermelon juice and coconut water we had! haha.

Surrounded by lush trees and a magnificent view of the ocean, it would be the perfect place to watch the sunset.

We ordered Fried Rice, Steamed Fish and Curry Powder Crab.

It was delicious! Superbly cooked to perfection and it was so fresh!

All in all, the trip was great. I felt so relaxed and rejuvenated before heading back to KL. We had massages done every minute we could spare and spent most of the time lazing by the beach and tanning.

So recently I came across this website selling really cool casings for iPhones and Androids. It also expands to MacBook's and iPads too. What's exceptionally dope about it is that they do customizations!

So I got to review the infamous Kat Von D makeup.

Major yay!

It came in a nicely packed box full black (black is my fav color), and fonts that looks oh-so-goth-like!

Even with whatever I said above, the packaging still had it's girliness to it. I'll show you more later.

So I was given three lipsticks, three liquid lipsticks, one eyeliner, two brushes, one face palette and one eyeshadow palette.

I was looking forward to the foundation cause I heard many good things about the staying power, but I was still pretty stoked with all that I've received.

Let's start of with the lipsticks from the Studded Kiss range.

Firstly, the packaging is super slick and edgy. Every stick of lipstick has Kat Von D's stamp too!

It's glides on smoothly, with a creamy texture and leaves hints of a nice luscious vanilla scent.

I received three colors, from left to right (pic below), Poe, Underage Red and Lovecraft.

My favourite colour would be Lovecraft, as I can wear it everyday. It's a beautiful dusty pink tone which is super in trend now and I am so happy to finally own one that is quite pigmented for a lipstick base as I've been using liquid matte ones and I was hoping for a creamy one. Underage red is a gorgeous deep red color, perfect for vampy looks and night outs. I haven't been wearing red for a while now and would probably sport it soon. Poe is a very experimental color, definitely something I would wear when I am feeling cheeky. However Poe needs a few applications as it's quite translucent on the first swipe.

I have a weak spot for liquid lipsticks. Also known as matte lipsticks to some, these babies are supposed to be long lasting throughout the day! In the Kat Von D makeup range, they're known as Everlasting Liquid Lipstick. I've had my fair share of different matte lipsticks so these were definitely up for a challenge. From the bottom up, L.U.V which boast a bright purple hue, again, a very dramatic experimental color. Suitable for times when you just wanna have fun! Next is Outlaw, compared to Underage Red, Outlaw is one shade lighter but since this is the liquid version it's more pigmented than the stick version. Last but not least, one of the best selling color, Lolita. Another fave of mine which I will be wearing daily! It's a darker dusty pink shade compared to Lovecraft and has a slight purple hue.

Also the Tattoo Liner in Trooper.

In a simple tube with an easy applicator, these lipsticks are my favourite for quick application and it is REALLY long lasting. Yes, I've tried it and it's great! It's not as drying as some I've tried before, it dries off matte and it glides on smoothly. Very pigmented and highly recommended!

Swatches of the Studded Kiss in Poe, Everlasting Liquid Lipstick in Outlaw, and Tattoo Eyeliner in Trooper.

Look at how pigmented Outlaw is, and that's only in one application although you are supposed to fill in your lips with one! The Tattoo Eyeliner is pen like so easy application which you can also control the thickness and shape easily.

Moving on to the palettes, we have the face Shade + Light Contour Palette and Shade + Light Eye Contour Quad Palette.

This month, Atria Shopping Gallery will be having a comedy and food fest where you can expect one and a half hours of rib-tickling jokes as some of the top Malaysian stand-up comedians keep you entertained and help you forget your blues at special sessions on Thursday, Friday and Saturday on the Ground Floor.

The food festival will be happening on the Concourse Floor from 20 to 31 July 2016 featuring some of the mall’s tenants as well as outside vendors. In conjunction with the fest, Malaysia’s most famous culinary personality Datuk Chef Wan will share his delicious recipes and demonstrate his cooking skills.

We decided to visit some of the food and beverage outlets who will be participating in the upcoming fest so it was up to the third floor of the shopping centre which houses a whole variety of restaurants, cafes and F&B outlets.

I Love Yoo! is known for their traditional Chinese favorites including ‘You Tiao’ and ‘Tau Foo Fah’ and they only use 100% fresh and new palm oil for frying, non-genetically modified soy bean and high quality ingredients. We had our breakfast there which consisted of red bean and peanut sesame balls, soya bean, you tiao and Hainanese coffee.

Not a bad way to start the weekend…

Then it was over to Hometown Chinese Restaurant to try their Traditional Pork Noodle Soup (RM15.90++) and Mince Pork Noodles with Chicken Drumstick (RM15.00++). Both the dishes were the bestsellers at the restaurant and a favourite among patrons especially during lunchtime. The portions were pretty big and the pricing quite reasonable for a restaurant in a shopping mall.

We washed down the noodles with a pot of hot Jasmine tea in a restaurant setting reminiscent of the olden days Chinese restaurants with marble tables and rose wood furniture.

Pho aka Beef Noodle Soup

Pho Vietz is famous for its Pho aka beef noodle soup (RM17.90++) which consisted of vermicelli soaked in a really flavourful broth made from beef bones, oxtails, flank steak, charred onions, ginger, and spices. This restaurant gets quite busy during lunch and dinner so make sure you go early if you intend to dine there.

Vietnamese Baguette is influenced by the French during the colonial era but is localised with traditional Vietnamese flavours

Vietnamese Beef Stew which comes with either baguette or rice and features deliciously tender chunks of beef in a thick sauce that we moped up with the baguette

Of course we had to try their famous Vietnamese coffee with milk which imparted a really fragrant aroma and a rich taste.

Go Thai is a Malaysian-owned restaurant with an all-Thai kitchen team that specialises in Thai street fare. The restaurant is set-up with colourful street food scenes on the walls, intended to give you the feeling of being on a Thai street but in the air con comfort of a mall. BBQ skewers are a highlight, showcasing a strong inspiration from the northeastern Isan region.

Taking a tour of the kitchen, we were amazed to see the division of labour – the staff specialise cooking only one (1) type of food – grill, soup and others like a true hawker stall should be. The kitchen was also squeaky clean and there’s also a hotel grade dishwasher which ensures that all the dining ware and cutlery are spotless.

This outlet is the second after the first one in SS2, Petaling Jaya and has a menu that doesn’t boast many items of food. This is intentionally done so that the quality of the food is emphasized instead of an outlet which features a huge variety of items but doesn’t specialise in any.

Finally it was over to Eggu for dessert! Eggu serves soft serve ice cream, and crispy eggettes come in flavours such as original, choco chips, butterscotch, green tea, charcoal and banana. The signature creation is the “Eclipse”, a combo eggettes and premium soft serve ice-cream. The soft serve ice cream is creamy and not too sweet, while the eggettes add a nice variance in texture when eaten together with the ice cream.

Papi Zak

Papi Zak is definitely the “biggest” stand up comedian in Malaysia. Born in Egypt and raised in other different countries, he is the true definition of a third culture child. He is a gut-grabbing performer who has no qualms about opening his mouth and letting all manner of things fly out. It’s all these things that make Papi Zak one of the hottest comedians around.

Kavin Jay

Kavin, one of Malaysia’s most underrated comics, is a rapid-fire grumpy joke telling machine. He may be grouchy but does it with such panache, you can’t help but laugh. He is an integral part of the comedy revolution in Malaysia and a regular host and performer for TimeOut KL Comedy Thursday.

Jonathan Atherton

Jonathan, an actor, comedian, traveller and raconteur, is no newcomer to the entertainment industry. As a teenager he pursued an acting carer. He made his debut in The Mango Tree, then went on to play television and theatre roles.

Gajen Nad

Gajen, also known as “Malaysia’s First Chindian Comedian” is no stranger to the limelight, appearing in Monash University student magazine Monga, getting interviewed by Capital FM, and even having NTV 7 film a documentary about his career as a stand-up comedian.

This fall, GUESS has American model Hailey Baldwin in her first-ever GUESS campaign alongside returning faces, Emma Stern and Matt Trethe. The campaign was photographed against California’s stunning Malibu landscape, with the sequence of images capturing the sunshine glistening off the models’ bronzed skin and wind-swept hair.

The campaign was directed by Paul Marciano, Chief Creative Officer for GUESS?, Inc., shot by international fashion photographer, Rayan Ayash and styled by Marie Claire Italy Fashion Editor, Elisabetta Massari. Hailey, Emma and Matt are photographed in a field filled with clusters of cherry blossoms that add some colour and contrast to the scenes.

For the GUESS Guy, there’s the inclusion of a modern military and biker vibe into the outerwear collection with an array of structured knee-length overcoats with oversized button detailing and multi-zipper moto jackets in sleek black hues. Attend Sephora's Summer launch a few weeks ago at Bridge Bar, G Tower hotel.

I walked into a room that smelt so good! Filled with floral notes and delicious spices like vanilla and cinnamon, I was stoked to see what products were on show that day.

From luscious body butters to oils and scrubs, everything was eyecatching and very very impressive. I was particularly impressed with the new packaging on main brand Sephora. Opting for a sleeker look with simplicity as the main goal, it is easier to spot the product that suits you.

Sephora wants to promote a healthy, balanced, skin care regime that goes from head to toe without breaking the bank. Its latest range of product (some have been always there) screams simplicity with no complications!

Few products I was very impressed by are, Sephora Collection Boosters, which has three different types from its range to suit different skin - Luminizing, Clarifying, Revitalizing and the Whipped Cream Moisturizer.

The booster, which is in the picture above, serum like bottle in coral colour contains powerpacked ingredients that helps minimize dullness by adding radiance and a healthy looking glow. In as little as 14 days, this booster can help boost the appearance of radiance and refine skin’s texture. Featuring a high concentration of vitamin c, the formula provides a healthy glow. It is ideal for use alone or can be added to your favorite moisturizer or foundation.

While the Whipped Cream Moisturizer comes in a huge tub of goodness (yay for savings!) and probably could last me for a few months, its not only light but very fluffy to the touch, leaving my skin soft and moisturized. Perfect as I sleep under direct airconditioning.

The opening of the first Ball Concept Store at the One Utama Shopping Centre in the Klang Valley provides a platform for watch lovers to view and purchase the brand’s comprehensive collection in an elegant environment that mirrors the sophistication of the timepieces, together with a range of professional services.
